You can't fault Steve Jobs' consistency: when he said he wanted to wage war against Google, he stuck to the message and made plans to act. The "thermonuclear war" on Android he told his biographer, Walter Isaacson, about had a different name in a 2011 internal email, though. In an email to top staff Jobs spoke of a "Holy War with Google", which was the "primary reason for this Top 100 meeting".</div>

3. Apple cares more about the competition than it lets on</h3>

We're supposed to think that Apple doesn't care about market share, but of course it does; it just doesn't like to admit it. An internal slideshow about Apple's 2014 phone strategy, which was presented during the cross-examination of Apple marketing VP Phil Schiller, said that "consumers want what we don't have" and emphasised the growth in cheaper and larger phones.</div>

So much for Apple not caring what the media says: when the Wall Street Journal said Apple had lost its cool to Samsung, Phil Schiller emailed Apple's ad agency to say: "We have a lot of work to do to turn this around".</div>

According to a 2011 Samsung strategy plan - a plan with the heading BEAT APPLE on page two, Samsung's "#1 priority" is "beating Apple." "(everything must be context of beating Apple)," the document adds, somewhat unnecessarily.</div>

6. Android didn't want touchscreens until the iPhone came along</h3>

The excitingly named Android Project Software Functional Requirements Document version 0.91 - July 6 2006 confirms what most of us had already guessed: the iPhone launch caused major facepalms at Google, which was planning to concentrate exclusively on phones with horrible little buttons.</div>

Many of us were cynical about Samsung's 2011 claim that it had sold 2 million Galaxy Tabs by the end of 2010, suspecting that by "sold" it meant sold to retailers, not to customers. When pressed Samsung wouldn't give a straight answer, but evidence obtained by AppleInsider shows that the real figure was much, much lower: just 1m total sales up to June 2011. The Galaxy Tab didn't even outsell the Nook.</div>

If Apple wants to cause trouble for Samsung, it should leak news that the iPhone 7 will contain a unicorn, run on dilithium crystals and include a metal detector: in Samsung's strategy plan for 2012 it described the "extremely real and urgent" threat of the then-unannounced iPhone 5. The specs, Samsung predicted, would include "LTE, social networking, cloud integration, CE [Consumer Electronics] integration, improved Siri". Someone's been reading the rumour round-ups.</div>

An incredibly detailed 2010 analysis shows exactly where Apple got it right and Samsung got it wrong (short version: pretty much everywhere), while an earlier User Experience (UX) analysis uses the iPhone as an example of what Samsung should have been doing but wasn't. On the other side, Steve Jobs' Holy War email noted that Apple "needed to catch up to Android where we are behind", citing "notifications, tethering, speech…" as areas for improvement.</div>

Although Samsung is yet to officially confirm its Android 5.0 schedule, a SamMobile source is claiming to know which phones and tablets will be getting the upgrade. According to the source, the devices set to receive the upgrade are the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note 8.0 and Galaxy Note 10.1. At various points you go after a missile launch center by tank and an offshore industrial facility by helicopter, each serving as excellent examples of how well Call of Duty's zippy and responsive controls can be applied toward massive, fully navigable battlefields. It's also a game with a knack for crafting tense shootouts in unexpected locales, highlighted by a brief jaunt into outer space that has you floating from one piece of debris to the next, aiming the shots that will make a Federation soldier's helmet decompress in a gruesome hiss.</span></div>

Then there are the more tightly scripted scenes, like prowling through a dense jungle while using a motion tracker to spot enemies, or rappelling down the side of a Caracas skyscraper as you quietly snipe soldiers patrolling its interior. Moments like these further the game's excellent pacing, serving as welcome palette cleansers after some of the more spacious and chaotic battles.</span></div>

Using your pet dog to take out enemies serves as an entertaining staple of the game's early missions, but this gameplay mechanic completely disappears for the latter half of the campaign. Your AI squad mates still have a habit of occasionally running in front of your gunfire as thought you don't exist, and a few levels follow the bland corridor template a little too closely. But those issues aside, this is an impressive campaign that uses the series' winning formula as more of a roadmap than a shackle.</span></div>

While the current-gen versions are just as competent as ever, rendering the chaotic shootouts at a smooth 60 frames per second, the PS4's next-gen artistry creates a much more immersive battleground. Those effects are most noticeable in the levels that emphasize lighting: the soft bokeh effects of floating embers on a burning oil refinery, or the way moonlight refracts and ripples while underwater. It's essentially the difference between a PC game running on high versus low settings. Each version is functionally the same, but all those extra effects add up to a more engrossing experience.</span></div>

Gone are the Spec Ops missions from Infinity Ward's previous work, replaced by a new co-op campaign dubbed Extinction. Much like Zombies in the Black Ops games, Extinction presents a playful alternate reality where you and up to three friends are dropped into a battle against fantastical enemies. But instead of shambling zombies, you're fighting a swarm of buglike aliens. The way these enemies scurry up the sides of buildings and burst forth from underground hives changes the dynamic in a monumental way: you're still employing Call of Duty's signature shooting mechanics, but you're doing so against an enemy whose animalistic movement makes it much more imposing and unpredictable than your average foot soldier.</span></div>

There's a class system that allows you to play complementary roles, an in-game skill tree that lets you beef up your character on the fly, and a scavenging system where taking the time to rummage through a dumpster might reward you with a new weapon sight. There's also an economy that encourages fun twists on teamwork, like the ability to pool your money together to unlock a helicopter strike when things get really tough.</span></div>

Facial designs, skin color, and gender are all options you can use to craft your own characters, and then you take those creations one step further by leveling them all up independently of one another. For a series that has long given you such granular control over your weapons and abilities, it's nice to finally be able to apply that same level of personalization to the characters themselves.</span></div>

Blitz is like a twist on American football: players dash toward scoring zones on the other team's side of the map, warping right back to safety if they're successful and becoming sitting ducks if they fail to properly judge the scoring cooldown timer. Hunted takes a <i style="box-sizing: border-box;">Hunger Games</i> approach to multiplayer design, giving players one handgun and 10 bullets to start and forcing them to fight over randomized weapon drops that fall from the sky. And then there's Grind, an evolution of Kill Confirmed that makes players take the dog tags dropped by fallen enemies and run them back to a handful of specific locations in order to bank points. Each of these game modes adds a devilish new wrinkle to the multiplayer experience, taking an already exceptional collection of competitive options and expanding them further.</span></div>

How do you judge a game as hyped as Titanfall? Do you deconstruct it, check all the bullet points are covered, pick it apart and talk about the things it doesn’t do? If so, Titanfall might leave you wanting.<br />

Visually, Respawn’s debut is a great-looking game, but not quite a next-gen benchmark setter. It can’t boast certain must-have features, like destructible scenery, evolving maps or branching objectives.<br />
<br />
The much-vaunted fusion of single-player and multiplayer action turns out to be a thin layer of narrative that makes virtually no difference to the gameplay. It’s short on innovative game modes, and there aren’t even that many maps.<br />
<br />
Yet the experience of playing Titanfall says something different. If you’re bored of online FPS games, Titanfall might make you think again. If you’re looking for something that’s about more than twitch reflexes and sudden headshots, Titanfall delivers.<br />
<br />
Sometimes its innovations aren’t that major or that obvious, yet they come together to make a quietly revolutionary game. The guys who transformed the genre with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare have done it again.<br />
<br />
The most important thing in Titanfall turns out not to be the Titans or the single/multiplayer campaign, but the simple joy of moving around the map.<br />
<br />
Splash Damage’s under-appreciated Brink did its best to bring parkour to the FPS, but Titanfall nails it, with its jet-pack packing, wall-running, double-jumping pilots exploring the world in a way that brings to mind superhero games like inFamous more than Call of Duty.<br />
<br />
You might think playing on foot plays second-fiddle to piloting a Titan, but you couldn’t be more wrong. Sprinting up a wall and jumping through a window to surprise an enemy position never gets old. Chaining wall-runs and jumps to reach higher ground is a thrill in itself.<br />
<br />
The speed and fluidity of movement even changes the whole flow of the gameplay. You’re rarely more than thirty seconds from the action, and it’s quite hard for all but the most skilled snipers to get a bead on a moving pilot.<br />

Then there are the Titans. True, we’ve had big lumbering mechs to play with before, but Titanfall makes them more than walking tanks.<br />

The dash ability turns out to be crucial, enabling you to dodge incoming fire or charge in with a melee punch. There’s a real art to using the vortex field, timing things right so that you suck in incoming fire, then spit it back out for maximum damage.<br />
<br />
Throw in the additional weapons and secondary abilities you unlock as you progress through the persistent levelling system, and there’s plenty of potential to build your own style of Titan. Switch Vortex Shield out for damage-dealing, Titan-concealing smoke, and you can have a great mech for close-quarters battle.<br />
<br />
Make use of the Tier 1 and Tier 2 passive capabilities, and you can have a Titan that blows sky-high even as it goes down, while you eject into the sunset to fight another day.<br />
<br />
The mix of pilots and Titans works brilliantly. Slow-moving, isolated pilots are easy-pickings for a mech, but an acrobatic pilot with a cloaking shield engaged is another matter.<br />
<br />
Pilots can damage Titans not just with anti-Titan weapons, but by leaping onto them and disabling them from the outside: a difficult feat to pull off, but one that’s worth it for the hugely satisfying payoff.<br />
<br />
While the game works at two scales, it never feels like two discrete battles. Whether you’re playing David or Goliath, there’s always something you can do to make a difference.<br />

This generous spirit flows into the game as a whole. In recent years the online FPS has become a horribly frustrating place for all but the most committed. Whether you’re a n00b or just someone who doesn’t have ten hours a week for the latest Battlefield or Call of Duty, it can be hard to take the pace.<br />
<br />
Titanfall changes this, not just because the new style of gameplay levels the playing field a fraction, but because it makes participation about more than making headshots. It’s not like Battlefield, in that there aren’t specific recon or support roles, but even less skilled players can get stuck in, focusing on taking control points in the objective-based Hardpoint mode, or just hoovering up easy kills against the AI-controlled Grunts and Spectres in Attrition.<br />
<br />
The slightly dumb and predictable bots don’t just help fill out the battlefield, but give novices an easy target to build their skills on. Even the game’s brilliant endgame plays its part, allowing those on the losing team to snatch some comfort by reaching the evacuating dropship, while the winners do their best to heap one final humiliation on top of the loss.<br />
<br />
There was much controversy pre-beta about the twelve-player cap, but this is still very much a non-issue. We’ve yet to play a single round that hasn’t felt frantic and exciting, and even with five players per team that doesn’t change.<br />
<br />
Like so much of Titanfall, the player count seems perfectly balanced. With all the grunts, spectres, pilots and titans on the field, you’re never left looking for team-mates to support or enemies to shoot.<br />

As far as maps go, Titanfall has its share of slightly generic industrial sci-fi efforts that you’ll struggle to tell apart, but also some genuinely brilliant efforts. Boneyard, set on a desert planet with giant flying lizards soaring around, is a particular highpoint, even if the local fauna takes disappointingly little part in the action.<br />
<br />
A crumbling star cruiser is the focus for a complex labyrinth of open spaces, corridors and chambers, while a corporate facility becomes a fiercely-contested battleground, with robotic assembly modules that churn out Spectres in Hardpoint mode.<br />
<br />
Even when the aesthetics aren’t brilliant, the map design is flawless, each one supporting different routes and different styles of play, without missing out on the traditional open battlegrounds or choke points.<br />
<br />
Visually, Titanfall is more evolutionary than revolutionary. Its Source Engine graphics max out on lovely HDR lighting and crisp detail, not to mention big explosions and particle effects. However, if you look closely, you’ll notice how the vegetation barely moves, and how the ongoing signs of destruction are very limited.<br />
<br />
It’s a valid criticism, but – frankly – you’ll be far too busy to spend much time noticing. Ditto for the 792p native resolution, and the very occasional dip from 60fps or roundabouts.<br />

What's a stronger cause for complaint is the feebleness of the narrative-led campaign. Structurally it works pretty well, taking you through nine Attrition and Hardpoint scenarios first from the vantage of the authoritarian IMF, and then through the eyes of the rebellious Militia.<br />

The narrative bit extends as far as pre-match and occasional post-match cut-scenes with the odd bit of chatter in the corner of the screen (and you’ll barely have time to notice that).The outcome of the scenario has no real effect on the direction of the story, and each campaign is effectively little more than a pair of ready-made playlists.<br />
<br />
Both campaigns are fun to play through, but neither does much to hook you in emotionally, and it doesn’t help that the IMF campaign is more generic and less sympathetic than the Militia storyline.<br />
<br />
Play modes could also be more imaginative. Attrition and Hardpoint are classic Team Deathmatch and Control Point modes, while Last Titan Standing and the new Pilot Hunt and Capture the Flag modes are also variants on well-worn themes.<br />
<br />
Maybe Respawn was too busy thinking about the minute-to-minute gameplay to think about this stuff. Maybe it’s something that could be addressed with the inevitable sequel.<br />

In the end, it doesn’t matter. The real hook for Titanfall isn’t narrative, but the fiendishly addictive gameplay and the constant drip-feed of new gear and new challenges as you play and level.<br />

Whether they’re new weapons and attachments for your pilot or your Titan, or the collectible Burn Cards you can play to give you an edge when you respawn, there’s always something new to do or try. Once again, everything seems exquisitely balanced.<br />
<br />
We’ve yet to find a weapon, capability or attachment that boosts one thing without taking away somewhere else. Experience doesn’t so much give you an advantage as enable you to take different play styles for a spin.<br />
<br />
Finally, a word about stability and servers. We’ve been playing pre-release on European servers, and we’ve had no problems with matchmaking or finding a game. In fact, it’s been so easy as to be practically transparent. Nor have we had any problems staying in a game once started, bar one dropped connection we’d put down to our own ISP.<br />
<br />
The worst thing we can say is that it’s nearly impossible to find a game of Pilot Hunt or Capture the Flag, but that’s probably a case of low player numbers and/or interest. We know that PC players have experienced more errors, and we’ll keep playing the game post-launch to see if any problems arise. If they do, we’ll report back ASAP.<br />
<br />
<strong style="font-style: inherit;">Verdict</strong><br />
Titanfall might not look or always seem that revolutionary, but it is a transformative online FPS in its own special way. We’ve never seen an FPS that combines two scales of action so successfully, nor one with such speed and fluidity of movement.<br />
<br />
Everything from the weapons to the abilities to the maps to the Titans themselves is perfectly balanced. It’s tighter than the strings in a concert grand piano, and just as beautiful to play.<br />
<br />
We hope that we'll see a better fusion of narrative and action in the sequel, not to mention more imaginative game modes, but as it is Titanfall is an FPS to rival Call of Duty, Left for Dead and Battlefield, and one which sets high standards for a new breed of next-gen games to match – and hopefully surpass.</div>

The Samsung UE65HU8500 is where 2014 gets interesting. Not only is this 65-inch model the first TV from Samsung’s 2014 TV range, it’s also the brand’s flagship 2014 TV. Which means two key next-generation things: it carries a native 4K / UHD resolution, and it’s curved. The question is, is it also brilliant? Any discussion of the Samsung UE65HU8500’s design has to kick off with its curve. As with the only other curved TV we’ve seen to date, the <a href="http://www.trustedreviews.com/lg-55ea980w_TV_review" style="color: rgb(0, 51, 153) !important; text-decoration: none;">LG 55EA980W</a>, the screen curves gently back at its centre, creating an instant and potent aesthetic impact through its sheer difference from the flat TVs we’re all used to.<br><br>We suspect that many people will feel highly attracted to the UE65HU8500’s subtle curve as a design feature, but it remains to be seen if it’s going to have any appeal from a performance point of view.<br><br>One potential negative thing about the curve, of course, is that if you want to wall hang it it’s going to stick out much more than most flat TVs – though Samsung has at least come up with a simple wall mount that makes hanging the UE65HU8500 easier than you might imagine.<br><br>Another distinctive point about the UE65HU8500’s design is the narrowness of its bezel, which is barely 1cm across. This stands in stark contrast, of course, to the huge, speaker-sporting bezels around Sony’s upcoming 2014 UHD TVs – and it’s a contrast we think may work in Samsung’s favour with the public given what a chunk of living room space a 65-inch screen takes up even with minimal bezel around it.<br><br>We did feel, though, that the bezel looks a little plasticky and uninspired versus the panache and style of some previous high-end Samsung TVs.<br><br>As with last year’s UHD Samsung TVs, the UE65HU8500’s connections are predominantly provided by an external connections box, which hooks up to the TV by just one cable. As well as making it easier to keep the space around the TV looking tidy, this external connections box carries many of the TV’s ‘brains’, so that 65HU8500 owners could if they wish pay for upgrade boxes in the years ahead so that their TV is always enjoys the latest Samsung features and operating systems. Like a more extensive version of the Evolution Kits available for the last couple of generations of Samsung’s non-UHD TVs.<br><br><strong style="font-style: inherit;">Connection Box</strong><br>Another benefit of this upgradable connections suite is that it means you don’t have to worry about changing connection standards – eg, new HDMI formats – or new UHD broadcasting formats should these suddenly appear.<br><br><br>As a perfect example of what we’re talking about, the connections box with the UE65HU8500 carries four HDMI 2.0 inputs supporting 50/60Hz UHD playback - as well as compatibility with the MHL 3.0 spec (which supports 4k formats up to 2160p30) and support for both the HEVC UHD delivery system being used by Netflix and the HDCP 2.2 anti-piracy standard. None of these connection options were available on last year’s Samsung UHD TVs, but owners of those TVs will soon be able to buy the new connections box and thus instantly enjoy the upgraded connectivity.<br><br><strong style="font-style: inherit;">ROUND-UP: 10 Best TVs</strong><br><br><img alt="Samsung UE65HU8500" id="review-8755-127196" src="http://static.trustedreviews.com/94/00002b678/2657/SamsungUE65HU8500ConnectionsRear.jpg" style="border: 0px; display: inline-block; margin: 0.5em 0px;"><br>With so much confusion surrounding the UHD HDMI situation last year we always felt that the upgradable connections box was a massive attraction, and even though the HDMI situation is more established now, it’s still early enough in UHD’s life for us to still find Samsung’s unique upgradability hugely reassuring.<br><br>The UE65HU8500’s more advanced connectivity is far from the only advance its new connections box carries versus last year’s though. It also houses a considerably more powerful ‘brain’: a Quad Core Plus 1.8GHz system that apparently runs twice as fast as last year’s 1.3GHz engine. This is used to drive a more powerful video processing engine – including local dimming of the edge LED lighting array that’s delivered over more separately controlled zones than Samsung has attempted on a ‘mainstream’ TV before.<br><br>The extra power is also put to use with improving the upscaling of HD and standard definition content to the screen’s UHD pixel count, and, intriguingly, it powers a new PureColour technology that simplifies the colour processing system while also providing more than seven times as many colour adjustment points as any previous Samsung TV. Resulting, hopefully, in a much more defined and rich colour palette.<br><br><strong style="font-style: inherit;">Smart TV</strong><br>The UE65HU8500’s new brains also, of course, include Samsung’s latest smart TV system. At first glance this seems surprisingly similar to last year’s system, flying in the face of the wholesale annual changes we’ve become accustomed to from the Korean brand. But dig a little deeper and there are actually plenty of significant new developments to explore.<br><br><img alt="Samsung UE65HU8500" id="review-8755-127201" src="http://static.trustedreviews.com/94/00002b67d/b4c7/SamsungUE65H8500TVHub.jpg" style="border: 0px; display: inline-block; margin: 0.5em 0px;"><br>We’ll cover the system in detail in a dedicated feature in the next week or so, but briefly the main changes look like this.<br><br>Last year’s Social Hub has been replaced by a Game one. Social features are now included with the smart content menu window devoted to your personal streamed content rather than having their own screen, and include a trending on Twitter content-finding option. Gesture controls have been replaced by finger controls, the idea being that you can adjust the screen with really small movements of your fingers now, rather than needing to move your whole hands in the fatiguing way you had to with last year’s Samsung sets.<br><br>Also a big step in the right direction is the introduction of a new single content-sharing and control app for smart devices that replaces the over-complicated two apps of last year. Then there’s the ‘multi-screen’ function, which on the Samsung UE65HU8500 lets you display up to four different full HD 'subscreens' of content simultaneously. So you could, say, have live TV showing to top left, YouTube clips to top right, a list of related video clips to navigate to at bottom right, and the 'On TV' hub menu to bottom left. This switches to a footie-friendly picture preset, lets you highlight footage of a particular player from the tournament, and rather niftily gives you the option to have your TV automatically record a game’s highlights to USB, with the TV deciding what’s a ‘highlight’ by analysing crowd noise.<br><br><strong style="font-style: inherit;">What about the curve?</strong><br>We can’t, of course, leave off a discussion of the UE65HU8500’s features without looking in more depth at the curved screen. There are so many issues surrounding this controversial development in TV tech, in fact, that we’ll be doing a dedicated feature on the subject soon. Ahead of that, though, here are a few initial thoughts from living with the UE65HU8500.<br><br>The first thing to say is that the curve makes more sense on the UE65HU8500’s 65-inch screen than it did on the smaller 55-inch screen of the LG 55EA980W. We’ve always felt that curved screens are more likely to have positive effects at larger screen sizes, and this is borne out by the way the extra sense of depth and immersion the curve gives with both 2D and 3D footage feels more convincing from a wider range of viewing distances than it does with the 55-inch model.<br><br>It’s worth adding here that Samsung has introduced a new depth enhancement processing system designed to make our 'flat' source images better suited to the curved screen environment.<br><br>Another benefit of the larger screen is that the area within which you can sit before the curve starts to seriously upset the image’s geometry is expanded, making it easier to accommodate more viewers in the enlarged ‘sweet spot’.<br><br>That said, it remains the case that if your viewing angle gets beyond around 35 degrees off axis then the image starts to look uncomfortable, with the image near you looking compressed compared with the far side. And of course, the problem grows the wider your viewing angle gets. Although an exact iPhone 6 release date is currently unknown, it has been suggested by reported Chinese insiders that the phone will be unveiled as part of Apple's annual WWDC conference in June. While early iPhone's were unveiled around this time of year, based on Apple’s past habits, we can take a pretty good stab in the dark and say that these claims are rubbish.<br>

What is far more likely is that the iPhone 6 release date will be held in either late September or the opening days of October - a launch which will follow an unveiling less than two weeks earlier.<br>

With the iPhone 4S having marked the company’s first move to a late summer unveiling, the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S have all made their first appearances around the same time of year.<br>

Adding further backing to an autumn release, KGI Research analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that the iPhone 6 will touch down with a new 4.7-inch screen during the very latter period of Q3 - so late September. It has been suggested that the iPhone 6 will land as a busy second half of the year for the Cupertino-based giant, a period which will also see new iPads, MacBooks and the much mooted Apple iWatch land.<br>

Separate reports out of Japan and Taiwan have both suggested that the iPhone 6 will enter full production in July in order to meet launch demands. The most common iPhone 6 rumour to do the rounds in recent weeks is that the handset will feature a larger screen than past Apple handsets. With the likes of theLG G2 having already pushed flagship Android phone displays to 5.2-inches, Apple is likely to make another jump in size, having moved from 3.5-inches to 4-inches with the iPhone 5. At present, it is believed the iPhone 6 will host a 4.7-inch display - similar to the original HTC One - with an Apple phablet to follow with a 5.5-inch panel.<br>

“The electronics giant has begun evaluating a plan to offer iPhones with screens ranging from 4.7 inches to as high as 6 inches,” mooted “people familiar with the matter” have been quoted as stating in recent reports.<br>

With dozens of leaks all pointing towards the iPhone 6 featuring a larger screen, notorious Apple tipster Brian White has added that an iPhone 6 screen size “could approach 5-inches.”<br>
<br>
Topeka Capital analyst White added: “The next iPhone will offer customers more choice in terms of screen size. The Company has never offered multiple screen sizes for a single model, we believe this is about to change with the next iPhone offering different screen sizes that we believe will allow Apple to better bifurcate the market and expand its reach.”<br>

Seeing a larger iPhone 6 screen all but confirmed, even component suppliers have been getting in on the premature unveiling act, teasing an increase in smartphone size. Speaking with Asian media, an unnamed Foxconn executive reportedly revealed that “Apple has been particularly interested in recent tests for a 4.8-inch screen.”<br>

With latest reports suggesting the iPhone 6 will line up with a 4.7-inch display, it is believed that the handset will still be smaller than many of its leading Android-based competitors, instead lining up similar in size to the Motorola Moto X.<br>

Size isn't the only change expected for the iPhone 6's screen. Building on the manufacturer's past Retina offerings, it has been suggested that the 6 will make use of new, Quantum Dot display technologies.<br>

Before you start scratching your head in confusion, Quantum Dot screens improve colour reproduction in the Retina display by emitting the light through a thin film of quantum dots. The technology also allows a wider gamut of colours to be shown more accurately.<br>

Despite grabbing headlines, the technology isn't new. Quantum Dot displays have already featured on the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX tablet line.<br>

Earlier this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook teased the company's plans to introduce improved displays to its mobile products, a remit sure to include the iPhone 6.<br>

“We want to give our customers what’s right in all respects – not just the size but in the resolution, in the clarity, in the contrast, in the reliability”, Cook said during an interview earlier this year. “There are many different parameters to measure a display and we care about all [of] those, because we know that’s the window to the software.”<br>

As part of the handset's refresh, a number of small design changes are expected, with those claiming insider knowledge suggesting Apple could relocate the phone's power button for the first time since the original iPhone was introduced.<br>

“Our understanding is that [the] iPhone 6’s power button might be moved from the top to the side,” analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated. “We think this change is meant to facilitate one-hand operation and might indicate new application that require more frequent use of the power button.”<br>

Despite the iPhone 6 being set to be one of Apple's biggest launches of 2014, the next-gen smartphone might have to share the stage. With Apple having repeated teased and hinted a wearable gadget potentially being in the works at its Cupertino HQ, it has been suggested that the iPhone 6 release date could be held in conjunction with an Apple iWatch launch.<br>

Tipped to boast a 1.3-inch touchscreen, the Apple iWatch will reportedly feature a curved screen manufactured by LG and launch as a companion to the iPhone 6.<br>

With insiders and component suppliers chattering about a bigger display, analysts have got in on the act too, with Topeka Capital analyst Brian White also pointing at a 4.8-inch form factor.<br>

One iPhone 6 rumour which seems to be stretching the realms of possibility, is collection of iPhone 6 concept images which have shown the phone with a curved, wraparound display. While these images have grabbed the attentions of many, even the concept’s designer has questioned its likelihood.<br>

“Such a design may appear on the iPhone 6 or 7, or maybe never,” designer Nikolay Lamm said. “It’s a cool design, but one which is unlikely to give Apple a sustainable competitive advantage.”<br>

Further iPhone 6 rumours have seen a proposed move to a Sapphire glass display reportedly set to the manufacturer back a staggering £350 million. While the move would help improve screen clarity and toughness, if the Samsung Galaxy S5 is on the receiving of its 2K display improvement, this upgrade might not be enough for Apple to compete with its Korean rival.<br>

Leading this new direction will be the heavily leaks Healthbook application, an aggregator of a variety of dedicated fitness and wellbeing applications and services that can be tied in to a selection of third party peripherals.<br>

Further features set to be introduced to the iPhone 6 through iOS 8 include enhanced CarPlay features, vast Siri improvements and major Apple Maps updates.<br>

As has become customary, the iPhone 6 is expected to be made available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage forms, although a new 128GB handset is also believed to be on the cards.<br>
